Geology

Park Bay occupies an exceptionally solid headland, which has remained for thousands of years. The land is on igneous bedrock and the coastline beyond the beach under the headland is boulders; an ideal breakwater sea defence and without an erosion problem.

The Caribbean plate rises over the Atlantic plate and that there is a net gain in land height annually in the Eastern Caribbean. It is reassuring if considering sea levels to remember this.

The nature and Qualities of the Location

The 1.5 acre site is green and of course enjoys benefits of the steady trade winds, making this a particularly fresh environment free of excessive heat and free of nuisance insects; peaceful, private and away from any noise and light pollution.

There is the sound of the waves and the light from the stars & moon, and the beach is natural and palm fringed.

History

Located on the east side of the island, the property is part of the historic Park Estate. Just inside the shaded entry gate lie the ruins of a sugar mill, whose impressive remains testify to the area's long history.

The many fragments of pre-Columbian pottery found along the beach speak of an even older past, as do the ancient trails that wind through the surrounding woodlands.
